IELTS speaking is a crucial part of the English proficiency exam, which takes approximately 11-14 minutes. The syllabus is the same for general and academic modules. The speaking section is divided into three parts- the introduction, the cue card round, and the follow-up Q&A round.
Confidence is key in the IELTS cue card round. Remember to speak with assurance about the cue card topics as you prepare. We are here to assist you and demonstrate how to respond to the topic for 4-5 minutes straight in total.
Today, we are providing sample answers and follow-up questions/answers on the cue card topic - “Describe a book you have read many times”.
As a bibliophile, reading books is a different kind of entertainment. I mainly read self-help and psychology books, so today, I am talking about one such book- The Power of Your Subconscious Mind.
I read this book for the first time after completing my Master’s degree. I was totally amazed by it. The Power of Your Subconscious Mind, written by Dr. Joseph Murphy, is a fabulous book.
Although this book is a self-help book, it has truly staggering details about the power of your subconscious mind. It can have a massive impact on your personal development. I was stunned by the detailed techniques of the power of visualisation and affirmations.
The book explores your subconscious mind’s potential and influence on your life. The basic idea behind this book is that your subconscious mind has infinite powers and, as you shall think, will be done unto you. It all comes down to how you think and process things.
Miracles happen when you learn to use the magical power of your subconscious mind. Reading this book made me feel joyous and optimistic. It teaches us how to use the healing powers of our subconscious mind and how to manifest. This is the reason I keep reading the book whenever I feel low and need a ray of hope and motivation.
Overall, the book teaches how you get what you want and how the subconscious mind actually responds to the thoughts in your mind.

I love to read self-help, psychological, and spiritual books. One such book is “Think Like a Monk”.
I read this book in June last year. Reading it for the first time was helpful for me on a personal and professional level.
This book teaches you how to calm down and transform your monkey mind into a monk mindset. It answers the question of why we do the things we do. The author says success does not ensure pleasure, but connecting with our mind and soul will bring us closer to our existence's true purpose and significance. And this, in the end, will make us truly happy.
"Think Like a Monk" shows how to break free from negative thoughts and habits and seek the calmness and purpose that are inside each of us. Jay Shetty draws from ancient wisdom and his own deep training at the ashram, where monks receive profound yet often abstract teachings.
I love to read it again and again as it teaches you to keep your mind calm and focused. The book has amazing, transformative insights written in simple language, and reading it once was not enough.
Overall, it provides transformative insight into calming one's mind and finding purpose, which makes it worth revisiting.

Well, honestly, people usually call me a true bookworm. Reading books is my childhood hobby. Now, as I need to talk about a book I have read several times, one such book I have in my mind is The Alchemist.
I read The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho several years ago. It amazed me differently because it showed the willpower of a shepherd boy named Santiago. Every time I read it, it reminds me of the significance of following our dreams and passions.
Although it is a self-help book, the way it is written is beautiful and magical, which makes us believe anything is possible.
The book is mainly about a shepherd boy named Santiago who begins a journey to fulfil his dreams. He meets several people along the way, all of whom teach him valuable life lessons.
The Alchemist is a book that changes your perspective on achieving your goals. Reading it again and again inspires me and makes me hopeful to attain my goals. It touches on the topics of fears of failure and love, the fears of dreaming too much, and the fears of not being sufficient.
Last but not the least, The Alchemist teaches us to open up to the possibilities of finding our destiny in the most unexpected places and follow our dreams.
